Heya ppl,

Just started noticing that as mornings get colder, when i start driving changing from 1st to 2nd gear is a little bit clunky!!! Once the cars warmed up, its all fine!! Also another thing ive noticed is that when i start up the car, its starts at about 1600 rpm rather than just under 1000rpm. Again once the car has warmed up is drives fine!!

Just want to know if anyone else has this problem??

I've heard of the GETRAG 6 speed being a bit clunky but I'm unsure of the 5 Speed.
The 1600rpm would most prolly be the auto choke compensating for the block being so cold....
I would be interested to hear what the rest of the crew have to say about their experiences.
I'll let you know in a week when mine arrives!!!
:P

If its a 6 Speed Getrag Very Normal. They use very thin oil but still needs to warm up, usually a couple of km for me. Same with the higher revs, air is colder and denser so computer adds a bit extra fuel. this should settle down pretty quick.

Cheers
Darren

Im going to book the car in for a service soon, so ill probably get it checked out then.
But some advice from other forum members on this topic would be much appreciated.

On cold mornings mine goes straight to 2 grand and stays there for about 30 seconds, then it hovers at 1000 for about a minute then settles down to 750. hope this helps, but mine is TT.

i have a NA 5 spd mine did this some morings atarts at 1,600 RPM or 1,300 some times after floging it the throtle body sticks open some time and u have to give the acc a quick taps and it's fine i sprayed wd40 on it made abit more smother but some times still does it but after she warms up it's all good but never had a clunk only when u try to quick shift and miss the change and leave a few metal shards on Main north RD :) but all good
it's build for a good punishment when needed :)

Yes, a high idle on warmup is simply the car's ecu doing its thing.

If it remains there, then you have a problem...
