Yes, Good luck with your exams ;) :D

IMHO the SAFC is all you would need for the mods that you have done. Reason? Well, I guess the exhaust and filter upgrades would endow the car with better breathing. This may or may not be enough to throw the factory ECU "out of whack" (for lack of a better description) which would most likely mean the car could be running either rich or lean. Again, I'm no mechanic so I don't know.

In any case, the SAFC would simply allow you to tune (fool) the stock ECU into seeing different values for various parameter than are actually true and thus tune the car (if necessary at all) to run better with the mods that you have.

Now I know I haven't really said anything above other than "maybe" or "maybe not" ;) BUT, that is what I WOULD be looking at using the SAFC for.

Does that help any?

Conversely, other electronic you could use could possibly include an APEXi RSM (Rev Speed Meter) to remove your speed cut and look pretty but that's about it IMHO. Can't really think of anything else....

Have you tried resetting your ECU? Pull the ECU fuses or remove the negative terminal from the battery for a few minutes and the ECU should reset to factory settings.

When you reconnect everything, the ECU should go into learning mode. I was told by one of the former owners of JPM that if you pull the fuses or remove the battery terminal, reconnect it a few moments later, then take the car for a thrash around the block and the computer should tune itself (it seemed to work on his 180SX)… I don’t know if it is true for the Supras…

^^^ I believe what Yiros said is correct.

After your mods the ECU may be a bit confised (out of whack) because of the different breathing characteristics.

Removing the battery's -ive terminal for a certain period of time should reset the ECU and when restarted the ECU will try to re-learn to suit new conditions.

With the SAFC however, you would simply be able to tune the car to the n'th degree and extract as much as possible out of it by telling the ECU what do do rather than relying on it to figure out the situation for itself.

Like I said, you may or may not need the SAFC. Just depends how badly you want every last bit of HP and whether the SAFC will actually be able to give you that extra bit of HP.

The above may or may not be correct but it is MY understanding of the situation. There may actually be a different way of of actually resetting the ECU but I don't recall right now ;)

Oh, and I think it takes more than a thrash around the block for the ECU to re-learn everything IIRK. More like a good hour drive I think it was....

I can pull the fuse or remove the negative terminal for you. It's a piece of cake.

Fours n More are rather busy at the moment as they are 1 mechanic down. I talked to Sonia earlier today about booking my car in and I have made a tentative booking but it depends when the guy returns from injury. My clutch has been slipping for some time now so I am not fussed if I wait another month or two. If I drive sensibly, I have no issues...
