Hi all, :bye:

Reading SF.com.au (again) and saw a thread on SAFC 2. These things (correct me if im wrong) allow tuning of a/f ratios, where as the stock ECU cannot??

I was wondering if anyone knew about these things, and whether it is worth getting one for a 94 SZ...

Also, where to get one (preferably locally) and at what price?

I am not looking to upgrade to a TT anytime soon, so I'd love to get all the power I can (without spending TOO much money)

Thanks people!

Correct, SAFC tunes your Air/Fuel ratios.

If I recall, I sold my SAFC2 off for about $480 :( Brand new they're worth about $200 more IIRK.

I'm pretty sure tuning the AFRs on an NA would have some affect to performance but obviously not quite as much as on a TT.

Whether it's worth the $600+ for an SAFC +$$$$ for tuning and installation to get an extra ~10rwkw I don't know....

Saw a group buy (that i missed out on :( ) on SF for 340 delivered! Brand spankin new!

Given ive already got the exhaust and gonna be doin the air filter soon, I reckon it would be worth the investment - to get the most out of those mods...

Any ideas where to get them from?

Cheers Pres.

Would you trust ebay for that sort of thing?

Are SAFC 2's a 'universal' unit - ie they will fit any car? Or are they 'supra specific' only (for example)?

Cheers

"Universal' if I recall. Only difference is that in the manual you simply look up different wiring options for different models or car.

Essentially the SAFC needs to interface with the same ECU signals on pretty much every car, the only difference being the pin/wire locations for each model.

Makes sense?

Yeah it does. Thanks.

Reckon Brenton would have any experience in that sort of thing? I know I know, I should ask him myself...

Ok guys, need help again...

What is the difference between the 'black' SAFC 2 and the 'silver' SAFC 2 (and please dont say the colour! :bleh: )

Would you think this is a good deal??

Need your opinions peoples...

Apart from "the colour" I think one was a special D1 edition (or something) and had slightly different graphics (D1) on power up, as well as, possibly, the display colour on the black one was/is white as opposed to the normal output colour... feature wise I'm almost 100% certain there was NO DIFFERENCE (someone correct me if I am wrong)

On the other hand, it could just be the colour.

I had the D1 Special edition one and I can't recall if it was black or silver.

Yeah - sent an email to the ebay member, and he said the only difference was the colour.

Price from the US: $410 delivered to my door.

Worth it ya reckon?

I'd wait to see what Sonia & Brenton say first before spending the $$$

Not sure how much of an impact it will have on a NA motor, that's all.

I agree. and that's what I was gonna do.

Given that I've already made the exhaust mod, and will be changing the air intake, you wouldnt think it would be worthwhile?

I'm not into chasing EVERY little kw, but I'd like to know I can get the best out of my mods (particularly those ones).

I would say that would be very good advice. I know I have wasted lots of cash on things that dont work/fit over the years (and there have been a few years :( ) I have learnt by experience now ask around before jumping in the deep end it saves a lot of dissapointment

Thats my 2 cents worth mate so ring Brenton and suck his brain dry  . There is a good chance he has just the thing you need for your car at very reasonable prices.

Other than that a MONSTER 2JZ-GTE with 2 big arse Turbs will put a grin on your dial

Cheers mate

With better breathing I would simply expect some free horsepower to be released but like I said, I have no idea if a SAFC would be necessary to tune the car any more or if it would, infact, benefit the car with producing more power.

Ok, still trying to understand this all a bit better...

Would there be anything else I would need as well as this SAFC2?

Reading the ebay description, it says:
It is a Piggyback fuel computer, which adjusts fuel / air ratio by air-flow meter / MAP sensor signal.

Does the air flow meter refer to MAF?? Im unsure of the difference between MAP and MAF and which one I have...

Help!

Thanks guys (and Pres for helping me so much this far...)

Hey PK,

We have MAP - Manifold Air Pressure sensor or Vacuum sensor in our case (not having boost ) I checked out my car yesterday and the little sucker sits near the fire wall just off centre (to the passenger side...)

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers

Andrew
