Hey Guys,

just thought i'd ask some experts that have had some experience with Supra's.

Anyone had any problems with the seatbelt not retracting with age? my drivers side doesn't want to retract and I'm not exactly game enough to pull everything out to get the panel off to have a look.

Had a quick peak the other day through the speaker hole. Not exactly sure whats going on, may just need to be tightened but its quite a safety hazard / irritating as all hell!

Easy way to get the panel off without pulling half the car apart?

Tips on how to fix the seatbelt?

Thankyou in advance,

~Collivaah

Don't attempt to fix, buy a new one.

I got my drivers side one supplied and fitted by wilshires for $200 in my prelude a few years ago, beats the $300 supply only I got quoted from honda (and also the same for a supra when my mate asked a few months back)

Supra ones have electric pre-tensioners(assume S1 is same in this regard as S2), dunno about the hon-duh ones or whether this would impact on 3rd party replacement. IMO I'd just replace with OEM, but I can be a bit anal like that ;)

The ones fitted to all the Imports are generally generic cheap arse ones so car can be complied. Genuine isnt good enough as dont have Australian Standards certification on them. That said if you order through Toyota Australia they will comply. Friggen stupid as they both will come from same factory Toyota Japan use  The perfectly good ones factory fitted are removed and CUT so they cant be refitted. I think Yiros fitted new OEM ones and said they work way better with none of the stupid lockups and jamming the Compliance ones seem to suffer from. I know I have same issue as my passenger side one is jammed and looks like needs replacing :sorry:

Not any more, pretty much all recent imports have OEM belts, mine does(mine was imported by Synergy getting on 4.5 years ago).

Bet you still have the reduced neck size in the filler so you cant fill your car with leaded petrol. Not that you have been able to get it for at least 10 yrs. Thats good news about the seatbelts though as it was just stupid getting rid of good for crap.

I will replace both my belts in near future for OEM and let people know the cost.

Just got a reply to my enquiry from Willshires.

"Reece,
We can supply and fit a replacement seatbelt for $225. Unfortunately they can’t be serviced or repaired once they lose their ‘spring’ as such.

We’d have the parts here in stock, and fitment normally takes around 1.5 hrs or so. Currently, we’re booked until next Wednesday.
"

I wonder what parts they have in stock?

You could of just cleaned up the rollers. they get a build up of lint and dirt which binds them up. also try cleaning the belt itself. this can also affect the retraction. give it a go if it dosen't help then get them replaced. no harm in trying the cheaper option first.

Tested it out, retracts when its extended all the way out, but only to a certain point... and me being rather skinny :P. Will give it a clean but i have a bad feeling its gonna be $225. Thanks for the idea though Mercury! :)
