Well it only took me three years since I joined this merry band to actually buy first supra. Managed to score a nice little '96 RSP SZ-R from cyberdiamond with minor front end damage for a steal. The only major problem with the car is that it is on the written off vehicle register as en economic write off, so to get her going again she has to be as stock as a rock and go through Regency, not really that much of an issue.

~As I got her~

I then decided it would be a brilliant idea to go out and waste a bucket load of money on some guages I didn't need, and thus this was the result.

It also came with tinted tail lights which I don't really like the look of, so I got a set of normal S1 tails (I prefer the look of them to S2) from phantom.

OMG awesome instrument cluster!!!!!!!!

I want.

Before you put it in PM me regarding a little side project im working on.
I am experimenting with a spare one I have so that the lights (not LED replacemnt bulbs but a shit load of LED's in ribbon form) are blue until a predetermined rev range then they all change to red. Also a knob that can be mounted in the dash somewhere (a hole will need to be drilled) so that you can adjust the rev range at which the lights change to red. I think 4K seems about right but having the option will be fun

Oh yeah and good to pictures of it, even thought its not in the best shape. you finaly got one JT!!!!! we need to have a cruise especially for you when its finaly on the road

Ahh I've already put it back in, just didn't take a photo as the little garage it's in is too dark to get a decent pic. Although its fairly easy to take back out, was surprised how easy really, took all of 15 minutes for the first time.

Lights in the tacho could be interesting to see, Cyberdiamond was talking about putting a strip above the warning lights and clock off to the left to do the same as you're thinking. Have a spare tacho if you need, sounds like a fun experiment, are you using individual red&blue LEDs or using bi coloured ones?

Can't wait to cruise in it, but don't think that will be for a few months if everything goes smoothly :(

Using RGB light strips, I Only discovered them not that long ago. In each LED there is Red, Green and Blue. They can be wired to run seperately or using a controller, all at the same time to make any colour in the rainbow. same as comp screens and tv's. Tricky stuff. I bought a frequency switch which I will hook upto the signal wire for the tach, when it reaches a certian range it will trigger a relay from always open (blue) to closed (red) and back once the frequency dropps agian. I havn't actually done the testing yet, im pretty sure its frequency based system but if its voltage thats easy, just have to make a super simple NPN transistor relay switch with a few resistors.
Keep us updated with you workmanship

Good project. Nice pickup on the guages, S2 TRD guages are getting to be rare as hens teeth now. If only I could find a 3-guage TRD cluster...

Personally not a fan of the s1 lights, I reckon the S2 lights look far better but to each their own I guess.

Put a wing on it wingless A80's are :smileygay:

The design of the S1 lights reminds me of the way the IS is set up, just without the chrome,

Hoping to pick up a TRD wing for it at some stage, but that isn't top of the priority or budget lists at the moment. :(

Congrats man, if you want a stock wing let me know. I have one going pretty cheap. lol. it may need a tiny bit of work as the dog has chewed a fraction of the corner (not really noticeable).

if its just bog you can redrill the holes easy enough.
Steedzy was happier with my stock wing on the back. and i was happier with 50 bucks in my wallet for a bottle of tequilla :)

I believe it came sans wing from factory, but ja I don't like the look of the stock wing, its either turtle or TRD (preference being TRD).

Wow someone ticked the No wing option box. They had to pay extra for that

At 120 mph the factory wing applies about 60lb downforce. The genuine TRD was apparently worth about 70 lb in the version 1 model ( no longer available and created too much under steer in GT Cup Race configuration where they had to use factory aero package ) and about 65 lb in the version available that we see cloned all over the world. Those figures are for genuine only as many of the clones are not quite the same due to lazy manufacturing and mould degeneration over the years. That said the TRD one does look better and takes a bit of the "Roundness" out of the A80's arse.

There ya go a little history gem I found somewhere in my Supra travel over the net :) Could be fact or fiction as I found it on the Internet

I'm a fan of wingless if the car has a kit or some rear pods to assist the look of the rear end, but in factory form I think they need a wing just to even it up aesthetically.

I removed my wing and think it's one of the best decisions I made. With the rear bar it makes the car appear lower than it actually is by not having the wing on there.

The TRD wing is definitely the way to go here if keeping the rest of the body stock. Have a chat to Aaron @ Import Monster. He had a wing sitting there a while back that I was going to buy but decided not to when I got my kit. In my opinion, that with a carbon fibre blade and CF front lip would look ace with the RSP.

Then all it needs is a set of 18 or 19" Work VS-XX Rims with black centers and a polished lip :D

I'd seen reference to the 60lb for the OEM wing as well. Hadn't seen references to the TRD figures though, interesting! Pity the TRD version is not available in CF versions.

For those wondering this is the first TRD wing type Darren was talking about, the Type-R which is discontinued,
http://trdparts.jp/english/image2/p_gt3000-wing-r.jpg

We're all familiar with the Type-S which is the one I would love to get,
http://trdparts.jp/english/image2/p_gt3000-wing-s.jpg

Would love to get a set of VS-XX in 18" with a gold face and polished lip, fell in love with the gold face on an RSP thanks to kimbo,

Or even these blitz beauties, although I imagine they would be hard to get!

Nos; I'm interested in all of that except the intercooler, will PM you a bit later when I have some spare money,

LJZ; it's going to get something done to it engine wise, still not 100% sure which way I go but after I get the RSP through regency and on the road I will purchase the engine/halfcut of my choice and strip her down and rebuild it before going in.

Mmm import monster have some cheap Blitz Technospeeds, just the wrong colour and a bit gutter rashed, but that can be fixed! Might have to save my pennies a little bit.

Not much of an update but the RSP is now sitting happily in my driveway, purchased a LOT of fluids for it today, and ordering the clutch tomorrow hopefully, all that's left to organise is the new headlights, side indicators and a cover for the gear shifter.
