Hey Guys,

I want to do the twin turbs conversion with the tiptronic gearbox. I've come to the conclusion the cheapest way to do this is to get a front cut of the facelift A80 with the tiptronic. Do you know where i can get a facelift front cut if not from you guys? Also roughly how much would you anticipate the front cut would cost? And also how much time (labour) it would take to swap it all over. I have mechanic mates that can do the mechanical side of it and you guys to the wiring, or is it better for the same person to do the lot? Putting out feelers for prices at the moment but would like to move this along in a timely fashion given the price is right.

Thanks guys.

With all the differences between a late Model A80 and a 1993 A80 I think you will find it would be a headache of major proportions. Its not a simple job and Im sure the Labour costs would make this a pretty expensive thing. An earlier model engine preferably from a 1993 TT would be the best bet. So many changes have occured with wiring looms alone from one year to the next. Best bet would be ring Brenton direct and go and see him as he doesnt frequent the site every day.

Best and cheapest option is buy a Late Model A80 with what you want from Factory.

Like I said ring him :)

LOL easier said then done there darren. He's a busy man and rarely has time for the phone. I'll go see him at some point. I just got a hard on for the whole tiptronic side of it, which is why I'm after the front cut. That should have everything I need for the conversion shouldn't it? obviously brake upgrade and stuff like that but on the engine conversion front it should have everything i need yes?

I'd say you'd need the late model front cut, which i dont think comes with brakes / suspension assembly, just motor, loom, accessories.

Manual TT front cuts are around 8-10k, I'd say you'd be expecting around the same amount for a tiptronic VVTi, then the cost of putting the motor in etc. Allow costs for servicing, fittings, unexpected parts you may or may not require. I'd be putting away 13-15k for a full conversion.

That being said that's just my estimation, I could be way off. IMO you're probably better selling off your current supra and searching for a factory VVTi Tiptronic Supra.

Best advice you'll ever get regarding converting NA to TT.

yeah i've heard it time and time again but there's plenty of sentimental value attached to this car. Im considering the big single turbs but apart from an aftermarket ecu and toughened up head there's not much else to spend on apart from the turbo set up itself, is there?

You might want to a bit of research if you reckon you can get away with headwork and ecu. You can probably do without headwork(unless valve stem seals are stuffed already).

You'll need to upgrade the fuel and ignition system to cope with a bigger turbo.

Also, don't forget that the TT cars came with better suspension and thicker swaybars, you'll need to make sure your suspension is good as well. Also, brakes, you need to do these as well.

Big singles hard to get through regency? Engineering cert needed? I dunno, when I was doing the 7m swap in my old ma61 the engineer didn't have any issues and didn't think there would be issues through regency for that. Not that I ever completed that process, spent more time off the road than on ;)
