if your going to get a new supra i reckon with the new rules it would be easier to get one locally. if not then you'll need a proper importer to bring one in for you that can do compliance. i think its towards $5000.
if you get a car that was made before jan 89 then it'll only cost around $1200 and some of the stuff on the car can stay. with the new rules on newer cars they have to be factory before they can be complied.
bout to take my car through regency so when i do that i can help you a little. if any of what i've said is wrong let us know cause i'm not 100%.

yep let us now how ya go. i was just wondering how harsh they are on mkiv's
i realise i will have to use a importer. but is it posible to do the complice work your self and just get someone to sign it off.??
coz most of it seems very basic.

I think it comes down to a legal requirement of RAWS where they have to comply the vehicle in accordance with the "evidence" they provided to be able to get the plates.
I'm not too sure how it works out with things like kits and wheels now days as I impoted my RZ about two years ago and it went through with a few basic mods no problem.
Maybe ask KAMiKAZE as he had his RZ complied under the new law only a few (3-6) months ago.
From what I've seen on the various mailing lists, the brokers seem to be selecting examples which are fairly stock both in appearance and modifications.
I suppose, though, you could pick the car up yourself from the docks (as I did when I imported mine) and take it home to rip off all the non OEM gear and replace it with "borrowed" OEM bits and pieces. Then after compliance has been done and it's gone through Regency and passed, you'd then, obviously, throw your old gear back on. Something to think about maybe.
There's been some nice examples on the mail lists lately too, like a Silver 1996 RZ (auto) going for $19,800 or something like that...
Anyway, if you have any more questions please ask as I'm sure someone will try to answer to their best ability and knowledge.
