Ok, so, my MAF housing has essentially completely broken away from the main airbox and it's going to cost a bomb to replace with new OEM parts. It also appears next to impossible to fix(I've already tried using silicon sealant to stick the two bits together but the angles that they sit in the engine bay just pulls it apart again in no time at all).

Anybody know of any aftermarket intake systems that are still available that I can use to replace the whole intake? I've seen a few pictures around on the national forums of VVTi intakes with a replacement MAF section, but so far I've been unable to work out the exact product that I need to do this. Apparently Apexi used to make one, but I can't find any listings for anything like that so I assume it has been discontinued. There is an HKS one as well...but given the reputation of the Super Dirt Flow filters I'm not sure I really want to consider that, if it is even possible to get which I'm not sure it is.

Without knowing exactly what is broken is it something that could be repaired by plastic welding?? The fact you tried Silicone suggests its a plastic part. Another option is High Strength Araldite. Not sure if either idea would work without seeing the part.

Hope you get it sorted OK

Cheers

Yep, plastic parts. Don't know much about plastic welding, what is involved? Given the way the current pieces sit I'm tending towards trying to replace rather than repair. I've actually got better pricing since I posted this morning, and am about to send off an email to Amayama(www.amayama.co.jp) who are getting a good rep over on Toymods to see what they can do. Their website indicates even better pricing again and brings pricing for new OEM to around the same, if not a bit less than prices I'd expect for an aftermarket intake. Still more than I want to pay...but way more reasonble than initial pricing by a few hundred.

I have seen some fantastic plastic welding jobs done. If you have a crash repair guy you know, check with him as to who he uses, and you might be able to get the guy to have a look. I had a non replaceable part on my VH Commodore plastic welded and when I saw the current owner about 6 months ago it was still holding up ( a dash component )If other ideas dont pan out its worth a try. :)

I did a couple of parts price checks against "Amayama" and RHD blew them outta the water on price. Im not sure what RHD can do on the piece you want but if you have part numbers give them a go also.

Cheers
Darren

Hrmm, might be something worth keeping in mind then.

Just sent an email to RHD Japan(I assume that is who you mean...), will see what they say I suppose. Cheers.

So, apparently the two bits I need aren't a large enough order for RHD Japan to bother giving me any information about them. They've certainly lost my potential business for this and anything else.

"Thank you for contacting RHDJapan and for your OEM request! Due to the overwhelming amount of requests for little bits of OEM we can no longer list these alone. When you are ready to consolidate this request with a larger order of items that are on our site please send us the list of order items you are interested in and we can take it from there."

Well I must admit that is a 1st from RHD. Im very surprised as they have been very helpful with my dealings and I usually make them my 1st port of call when hunting for stuff.

Next option try Curt at Elmhurst Toyota in the States. Not sure if US had same setup as late model JDM Supras but he is worth an ask also. I know he doesnt mind sending small one off items as he is basically the spare parts guy at their dealership. His details are available on US Supraforums

http://www.supraforu...splay.php?f=100

What sort of $$$ does Toyota here want to charge if you dont mind me asking ??

Haven't got a price from Toyota locally, not sure if I'm game enough to. Got a quote from Rutherford Toyota in NZ which was $900 NZ, got another quote from Kudos on the national forums which was $600AU delivered. Amayama site indicates under $400 AUD, and via email they reckon might be a bit cheaper than that. Awaiting confirmation at the moment. Not sure how much for shipping yet. That cost alone is under what I'd be looking at paying for an aftermarket intake setup(which isn't ideal anyway). That kind of cost I can live with for a whole new airbox, MAF housing and accordian hose.

I hadn't thought about any of the US guys, seeing as it is a JDM only item I'm not entirely sure if they can get it. I might have to dig around the EPC see if the part numbers are similar.

yes they do bring over some JDM oem Toyota stuff - I've had a couple of little things brought over from Japan for my car.

it does take a little while to track down the part, but it can be done. however, Sinergy's parts manager Shane is currently away, so it may take a bit longer for Rob to do it. tis worth a try though.

Cheers Kim, I might pop down after work one afternoon and have a chat. Failing that I do have a reasonable price from Amayama, shipping and fees suck, but it's well under $400 without those.
