full tank of fuel, comfortable clothing and (driving) shoes. you shouldn't need extra fuel as you won't be going flat out all day.
check your tire pressures (cold) tonight or first thing tomorrow. set at 36-38psi cold for 17-18" street tires.
take all loose objects out of your car beforehand (and check under the seats) so that crap doesn't roll out and fly out when you're on the track.

To Matt and Dean, the instructors, thanks for a fantastic day! My leg is hurting a bit from all the ABS shudder through the pedal, but dang, was it a good day!
Still gotta master the line through turn 8 though, a bit messy through there other wise i had an absolute blast!
Thanks for organising it Kim and im glad i got in before it got thrown in the too hard basket!

Which corner do you class as turn 8? The map doesn't tell me. Part of the esses I presume?

The last 3 corners before the starting line/pit entry. Had a bit of practice on them before we went all out doing laps around the track, probably the best section of the track.
No rain, luckily. We saw the clouds around 1 but around 3pm they completely passed us. As for the track, very cold in the morning. Went alright after lunch though.

it helps you learn your car as much as learning lines, effective braking and gear changes. I loved hearing the exhaust at full song. matt the instructor kept saying it sounded good. u kinda stuffed up but sounded good. and the loudness helped them know when i was accelerating and backing off. :)
i made it from lala to panorama tafe in 1.5 hours. walked in 1 minute after lecture started. the exam is next week. SO BONUS!
definately want to do the november day. gonna check dates and stuff.

Yep, they are a good section of the track. Probably because it's the most "risky" in that if you screw up coming out you have a good chance of going into the wall.
Best line to take is keep it nice and tight through the first right-hander into the esses(staying on the right-hand/inside portion of the track), then cut across fairly late through the left-hander and then late into the final right-hander. You want to make sure you keep as close the the inner kerbing as you can, if you get it right the car will go through a slight "dip" in the road. Gradually let the car drift to the outside part of the track while winding it out.
Apart from the big stop coming into the esses I was generally only giving the brakes a touch to get the nose down just prior to turning into the last right-hander. Takes a while to get it right as it is a tight complex of turns. Turn 2 I think is the hardest to really get right though being double-apex. Exit can be a bit risky here as well as the drop-off onto the dirt is quite big.
Glad you guys had fun, now on to the 2B course!

mark it in your diary.
it's five months from now, so no one should have the excuse of not being able to book some time off or get their car ready for it.
the official thread will be launched soon and i'll have the enrolment forms ready to go then. this day will fill up fast as plenty of people have done the course before and want to do it again.
I'll pipe up now and say I won't be doing it this year, pity.

unless i have an avalanche of people asking for the Advanced Driving Course from here on, it is unlikely that I will be organising another one in the foreseeable future (ie the next couple of years) unless the demand is there. booking Mallala for a whole day and getting only nine cars out there (from three forums) simply isn't economically viable for us.
however, i will continue to offer the usual High Performance Course in November and March as these are well subscribed by several car groups. you should definitely do the next one Simon - i think that you'll really enjoy it.
