Edit:
I've added to the poll to get a 1G-GTE and build that up with some nice power, It's one of the ideas thats been floating around his head.
Either way, His car looks very clean, Now it just needs the power!!

This is the way to go, it'd be better in an ma61 though ;)
1g-gte is an old shitty motor, no point trying to modify one of these any more, they weren't that flash to begin with.
JT where are you? Take note!

The only reason I had the idea of a worked 1G (preferably even worked 1G-FE not GTE) was cause there are none and it would annoy you people who say they are shit, but I don't have the money to do that properly as it would basically all need to be custom.
It is tempting but as I have just booked a trip to New Zealand don't really have the cash sitting around.
Good idea fellas but now is just not the right time.

But the ebay deal is a front cut from an is200? so surely it'd just take a good mechanic or two an afternoon...shouldn't cost too much at all? $800?
You're going to New Zealand??!!?!?! is this because they have they altezza club there?!!?!? are you bringing one back :D ?!?!!?
*jokes*

It is not a straight swap and it has been discussed before, even when doing most of the work yourself you are looking at 3k for parts on top of the front cut to do a proper conversion, therefore as I would need to pay someone to do it that is why I am guessing 4-6k.

get a quote from FNM or Sinergy for the transplant though (just to be sure)

Hah.
I was in Auckland last week and saw a bunch too, one of the guys that worked at the hotel I was staying in had one also.
Aren't they only able to be brought in here as personal imports though? ie there are SFA of them around...

Even if the donor car is an is200 already? Thats a shame :( The cash goes into gearbox and drivetrain i assume?

There are four genuine ones that I know of here in SA, three sedans and one wagon. Theres also one with the BEAMS transplant that is non genuine.

The donor car is an RS200 where as the AUDM cars are AS200s, few differences here and there.
Gearbox is the same (J160 6sp manual), but not 100% sure on what is needed, just what I have been told by a few who have done the conversion.
There will be many pics and videos to share :D

guess you got to look at your budget, the power you want - and how long you can be with out your car on the road :aggressive:
i still cant decide - keep my supra and upgrade motor n body ( 15k budget )
or keep 1g with limited power and buy a 4wd and a boat :)

Very cheap for the parts it has!
If a car has been imported as non road registrable does that make the engine unavailable for transplant as well?

Transplant away! As long as it meets the rules ie engine is not older than the car it's going into and all that it'd be fine. May need engineers cert for the turbo though ;)
