we will have our first trackday of the year with the John Bowe Driving team at Mallala on March 22.

those who have attended the previous High Performance driving courses with JB over the last few years (i know who you are) or have track experience are eligible to participate in this event. those who attended the Advanced Driving Course that i organised with John Bowe Driving on August 25 last year are also eligible for this High Performance Driving Course.

if you are new to this forum and haven't done a defensive driving course or some sort of high speed driver training course before, then you probably won't be able to enroll for this trackday. sorry, but this is a safety consideration. if you are interested in taking your car out to this trackday, have some track experience (not drifting) or are confident at driving hard and won't endanger the rest of us by being a complete noob, then please contact me for further discussion. if you fancy yourself as the next F1 driver, then i'm sure that McLaren will be looking to sign you up for their 2010 season - you'd better go back to waiting for that phone call.

the cost will be $425 for the day (sorry, has gone up for 2010) and you will need an AS/ADR/Snell approved helmet. fire extinguisher is optional.

this will be another joint event with Skylines Australia (SAU) as it follows on from the very successful Advanced Driving Course (Aug 25) and High Performance Drive days (Nov 23) that i organised last year.

No, we can't have spectators on the day as they are not covered by public liability insurance.

No, we can't have a purely SA Supra trackday because it is impossible to organise (if you think that you can do it, please go ahead).

Places are limited this time - 16 cars in total for SA Supra and SAU, so please PM me asap for the enrollment form. If you don't fill out the form and send in your full payment to John Bowe Driving soon, then you'll not secure a spot.

I wont be able to, But I have a friend with a non street legal rx3 who is interested. It's had a lot of work done to it.
Would he be able to join in on the fun? or does the car need to be registered?

here's the list so far:

IS 200 (JTmiller)
R35 GTR
R35 GTR
R32 GTR
Ferrari F430 (maybe)
AE86 (Kwan's mate)
S15 (Kwan's mate)

if i can get two R35 GTR drivers to attend this driving course, why can't we get some Supras out there?

Hey Kim, how many spots are there still available for this track day? When do you need to finalise the list by? I'm just waiting to see if I can get the time off of work atm. Got a mate with an RX-7 that would probably be keen. Pretty sure he has done track days before but just not with John Bowe Driving. Could he possibly attend? Would he need proof of previous courses, VW corporate drive days etc?

looks like we're all set for Monday - we have 22 cars on the list

the pair of R35's and a pair of F430's out there will be the highlight for me :)

as usual, not a big turnout from SA Supra, but i'll see JT and others out there first thing Monday morning!

I probably seem like a ghost coming back out of no where, lol. My friends have already messaged me and said they loved the day as usual, who wouldn't? . I wish my car was able to drive so i could head out too. Thanks for organizing another successful day Kim. Those GT-R's and Ferrari's would definitely be the highlight of any car enthusiasts day.

A big thank you to Kim for organising this day again! I very slightly (half a second) improved over the time I got last track day so I am happy with that, the conclusion from the driving instructors is that it will be very difficult for me to squeeze any more time out of the car in its current setup which I tend to agree with, the times towards the end of the day were very constant and it didn't feel like there was much more to give.

I would post up some pictures but 75% of them are of the F430 and I can see how a billion pictures of that might get a tiny bit boring, but damn that thing was comfortable to sit in!

Not as many imports this time around but it was nice seeing what the Europeans had to offer,

The next time this comes around it would be nice to see more SAS people on board, it doesn't matter if your car isn't the fastest (I know mine sure wasn't, second slowest this time around) but you learn a lot about how your car handles and it is a LOT of fun. Plus watching an Elfin overtaking a 911 GT3 on the main straight being followed up by an F430 is a sight you do not see very often!

You might be surprised. What do they define as current setup? Depending what you have on now, good brake pads and good rubber can make a huge difference without changing much else.

Big differences can be made with driving style also. Are you heel-toeing on downshifts in the braking zones? If not, then you need to do this. I found going from sneakers for the 1st day I did to proper boots for the 2nd made a huge difference in the way I was able to brake and heel-toe. It was much easier to heel-toe smoothly when doing maximum braking with the boots. I was also braking a lot harder the 2nd time round, there is a lot of time to be gained in the way you brake, even though the instructors never really talked about this at all on either days that I was at.

Current setup as in no power when I have decent lines and am moving from the accelerator to the brakes and back quickly and getting on the brakes hard straight away. Sure there might be a couple of seconds to gain (not saying I am perfect, or even very good, but its an easy car to get into a good routine with) but with the way I was driving just don't think there is much more in the car. Brake pads were changed two weeks before the track day with OEM ones (Same brakes setup as the 2/1 on the S1 JZA80s) and the rear tyres are 2,500km old toyo proxes 4, the fronts are a little worn but were RE001s with plenty of tread left.

The instructor I had (David Cuff) was really good at explaining braking, don't know about the others but Terry mentioned it at the last one when I had him and it was discussed briefly in the opening presentation. Didn't have proper boots but had a pair a converse on as they were the thinest soled shoes I have.

Although thinking I'm not going to go any faster isn't going to stop me going out next time and still trying to beat it! :P

I know my issue when I went on my track day was a lack of testicular fortitude in the braking department. :whistling: Basically I needed to brake way way harder. It kinda goes against the grain with me as Ive always been pretty easy on my brakes but when I finally get around to doing another track day I will get over that habit by actually being able to do complete laps unlike the track day I went on. As far as heel and toeing goes I fail miserably due to the large plates of meat I have attached to my ankles and the not overly huge pedal area. Guess I wont be another Peter Brock , more like a Paul Morris
