Hey everyone I'm Tim. Thought I might as well save the introduction till I got my Supra, and as of Tuesday this week I finally got around to buying one. 1994 2JZGTE manual.


So, with that out of the way im trying to source a few things to replace broken parts or parts that are almost on their way out. If anyone has these lying around or knows someone that may have them that would be great.


1) Starter Motor needs replacing.

2) Electric Motor for drivers side seat is all the way back and broken. I've tried removing the seat to see what the problem is but its that far back that I cant remove it. Plus with the motor not working I wouldn't be able to put the seat back in the car making it unable to drive. Im not sure if its worth replacing the motor or getting an entire new drivers seat and rails, manual this time instead of an electric motor.

3) Centre console and the dash part with the ashtray need replacing due to both lids broken.

4) Loud noise when A/C is on, see posts below.


I'll update this as more things come to mind, but so far that's the important stuff that I want to get out of the way.

Im getting a starter motor hopefully by the end of the week. One of the guys in the aus forums is giving me his old one which is in great condition. Im further down south at woodcroft so it would only take me 5min to get to marion anyways. I havent sold my old car yet so how long it takes to fit isnt really an issue at the moment. Thanks for your help.


Also im getting a weird noise from when my A/C is running and the clutch is out. As soon as I put the clutch in, the noise stops. It sounds like a really bad fan/motor problem. I had the same problem on my Lancer about 6 months ago and they replaced the water pump hoping it would fix the problem, about a month after the service the noise came back. Im worried that im having the same problem on the supra because it was an expensive repair on the lancer. I haven't had a chance to put the car in for a service yet after purchasing, but is there anything I can do myself before I get a mechanic to look at it?

just a quick guess either your thrust bearing needs replacing or ur air-con compressor is on its way out...weird that it would only make the noise when the clutch is out as the clutch and air-con aren't related...any one else got any ideas??

With a getrag, a hissing noise when the car is idling with the clutch disengaged is normal.

Is it heaps louder while the aircon is on or have you only noticed/listened for it while the aircon is running?

for number 2, you'll pretty much need to buy a replacement seat with a motor intact, I think there was a guy who attempted to fix his but not 100% sure, work gear drive or something is the issue.

There is a rough noise when the car is idle but it really isnt noticeable. As soon as i press that A/C button it gets ridiculously louder. Like ive said, the noise goes away when I press the clutch in.


I've got another problem that im not too sure on how to fix, although it seems fairly DIY. From what I know the previous owner topped up the Power Steering with the wrong liquid, then re-topped it with the right liquid. Now whenever I turn there is a really loud noise most likely comming from the power steering pump, and makes the supra sound more like a bus :(. Im not really well educated with how the engine is set up, but im guessing I need to completely drain the power steering, then top it up with the right oil?

Again, thanks for all your help guys. Starter Motor and Centre console are on their way so I can finally start crossing things off this list :)

Easy fixed, just install a twin plate clutch and I assure you the motor could drop a leg out and you wouldnt hear a thing :lol:

Yeah the Getrag is a noisy box generally due to its truck like nature and strength more so than the 5 speed.

Power steering pumps are pretty sensitive. . . you can try draining the oil and refilling it, but chances are, if the oil ain't low and it's screeching, it's time to get a new one. . .

I would have thought that its screeching because the wrong oil is being passed through it? Its not as if it drives like a bus, the steering works fine just at low speeds and cornering it makes the screeching sound. Thanks for your help.
I guess it really needs a good look over, hopefully when I get a bit of a break with work in the next 2 weeks or so I can get it looked at. Whats a good price for a second hand pump, or would I be better off getting a brand new one?

Just out of curiosity, have you had a look at the tension of the belts on the motor?

As ive previously said, I dont have that much knowledge with the engine. Im slowly learning. But from what I can tell it all seems fine. Theres nothing out of place or rattling that I can see. Although it might just be me and more obvious to other people.

Im willing to film or record the sound coming from the engine if that can be more useful? The mic on my camera isnt the best though.

Ice might be onto it with the belts being loose. . .

As far as the wrong oil, depending on what it was, it can get super heated and cook the seals/expand and warp parts- leading to the screeching. . . Or when the oil gets low, the same can happen.

With it only screeching when cornering, that's due to load being put on it. . . It will still be working, just probably at 70% of its efficiency. . . (you'll notice the difference when you replace it) So your right, it's not like driving a bus, but it ain't cool either. . . If your oil is topped up, belts tight and it screeches, I'd replace it. . .

FYI I spent $20 putting a treatment through my first one just to see if it made a difference - it didn't, so IMO don't waste your $$$.

Remanufactured are supposed to be as good as new, but based on mine (DM reman) I'll be buying a new one this time around. . .

Sounds like its going to be expensive to replace? I'll have another look over it tomorrow, is there a few/any specific places I can check to see the extent of the damage myself, or is it best to leave it to someone who knows what they are doing?

Nah, replacing a P/S pump is easy-ish and $200+-. . . Belts are 60+- You could try tightening it if it's loose , but I'd replace it (usually loose due to stretching) saves the hassle of when it does give way. . .

Start by checking your P/S fluid if you already haven't. If it's low, top it up and see if it stops screeching. If it's normal, then you can try draining the fluid and refilling it (just follow a hose down (also check a hose isn't pinched - my reason for needing a new pump this time round) and undo the clamp to drain), P/S fluid is cheap, so It's worth a try. . .

If none of that has worked, get a new or reman PS pump and swap it (bolt in/out- or search for a thread). . .
If you need a hand, I'm sure someone on here, myself included, would be willing to take a look. . .

Finally got a chance to look at it today. P/S fluid is filed up nicely. I read up on how to drain and refill the P/S, unfortunately I dont have a pump to get the fluid out so its something that the mechanic will have to look into.
I went through the report by Fours n more done by the previous owner, its stated in there that the P/S fluid is dark. Is that my problem right there? So hopefully all it will need is a flush.
