I read on news.com.au that one of the changes in SA as 1st January is "darker window tinting for cars" (news article here). It's finally time to get my windows tinted :)

I assume it will bring us in line with most other states, which is 35% VLT (visible light transmittance) on all side and rear windows. The previous SA regulation was 70% VLT on the driver/passenger windows and 35% VLT on rear and rear side windows (info here).

I'll give a tinting place a buzz tomorrow and confirm. Very good news for us anyhow! No more mismatched tint levels.

actually they haven't allowed any tint at all on the front driver's/passenger windows here in SA for the last couple of years. this became particularly annoying when i bought a new car interstate with fresh tint on it and was told that i had to take it all off when it landed here in SA so that it could pass the Regency inspection.

when i first got my Supra i had 70%VLT put on the fronts and at some point (i can't remember which year) it became illegal so now it's come round again.

here's the bulletin: http://www.transport...tor_Vehicle.pdf

Thanks for the info, you saved me a phone call :)

35% all round is pretty good. I'll be getting my windows tinted in the next couple of weeks.

Might have something to do with emission s blah blah blah

They have realised that driving around with the air con on causes more CO emissions and this is a way for the emissions to be reduced, heavier tint = better heat relfection!

I had 5% on side and rear windows on my truck in WA. . . Now that was awesome. . . Couldn't see shit at night though. . .Or early morning for that matter. . . But in the hot sun it was bliss. . . Also had a 15% strip on top 1/3 of the windscreen. . . None of which was legal might I add. . .
