Before I begin, all photos are in links, otherwise this page would be huuuugeeeee :whistling:
Since there is a slight lack of supra's, here's mine :)
I had one of these threads before the forum got wiped, but since then the supra's had a fair bit of work.
As most of you may or may not know, this is my current project car (well, my only project car).
I'm hoping to have it completed by this time next year financially permitting of course.
I bought the car just under 9 months ago for $2,500, yeah a bargain, I know ;)
but it had done something around the 350K mark so guess what happened first week of owning the car *cough*headgasket*cough*
Because I'd wanted a supra for so long my dad and I decided we'd buy another engine for it.
I bought a 7M-GE imported from the land of J (with correctly tightened head bolts this time) with only 95K on it, and it's still only done around 97K.
Only took a week and my baby was back on the road.
Unfortunately I don't have any photos of it when I first bought it, only fairly recent ones.
Here's a few from what it looked like a fair while ago (basically the same from when I bought it)
http://i109.photobuc...06/Image082.jpg
http://i109.photobuc...06/Image083.jpg

and from a month or two ago.

It now has an extensive list of mods, and a (hopefully) long list of future mods to come :D
current:
near-new front bar (with plastic lip)
second-hand rims (beats the stockies until I can afford better ones)
new engine, as said
after three interior changes it has a clean interior, with only minor imperfections
new KYB shocks all round
strut brace
isotta steering wheel
rebuilt W58 gearbox with R154 parts
recond. LSD
lowered springs in the front
new bonnet with scoop
gauges mounted above CD player
powerslot slotted rotors all round
clear front turn signals
clear timing cover (when my new cam gears come)
solid engine mounts
new pulley set, crank aircon and alternator

To come:
the obvious:
new intercooler
new oil cooler
polish and general clean up of engine bay
new hoses, blue silicon
braided lines, oil, water etc.
new high mount turbo manifold
forward facing intake manifold
blow off valve etc.
paint job with subtle body kit (widebody side skirts and front fenders)

also a brand new 60-1 trim CT-26 turbo is getting built as we speak, which hopefully will go down alright once it's on and running.
thats it for now!
I'll put up more photos of parts as they come, seeing as most of them are in the mail
Until then enjoy some photos of what I've done so far :D
And sorry for all the reading, but if you're gonna do it, do it properly :friends:

Haven't been very active lately due to organizing uni stuff and juggling around work, but there's a big update coming.
Engine's finally out of the other car and sitting on the ground getting cleaned etc,
just got a big shipment of parts from America, only waiting on the turbo to come which has been an absolute pain in the ass, and a few more little bits and pieces (hose fittings etc.)
Hopefully my engine now will be out and be finished within the next month or so!
I'll post up some photos in the next day or two for anyone interested :)

Good write up, be great to see your Supra when all done. Only thing that made me cringe were the solid engine mounts as they will transmit huge amounts of noise and vibration through the car. Great idea if you are building a drag car but wouldnt recommend it for a daily or fairly regular use car. Tried them on my HJ and they were on for a week max as the noise was insane.

Cheers and keep up the good work.

Darren

Yeah I thought about it, but I'm going to give it a go anyway, if it's bearable it will be alright, because once I get it painted and all that, it will only be a weekend/"show" car. So in the long run, if I can bear it they will stay :)

Why the caution guys?
If someone could clarify on that it'd be great (I'm a little in the dark on this one haha)

I'll tell you know... with the 7M, you don't go changing stuff unless you research it A LOT!

A well known quote, "99% of the time, the weak link in a 7M is the owner"
If you put that on, you will be upholding that quote.
If you want to make it look better, do a search on a ATI harmonic balancer.

Personally, the harmonic balancer is that low in the engine bay that it doesn't matter what it looks like once the belts are on it.

Thanks for the help Golli.
Not trying to come off rude, but I did research it alot (obviously not enough) and I thought it was only a crank pulley.
I was aware that the 2J's and 1J's used balancers, and thought the 7M only used a crank pulley.
But it does make sense now that you put it like that.
I'll be taking it off first thing tomorrow and putting the original one back on.
I've already learnt the hard way it's better to be safe than sorry :)

Alright, since my computer won't allow me to connect my camera, once again it's a words only update :(
Thanks to Golli and HKS_TRD's words of wisdom the crank pulley I was going to use is off and put in the corner for the rest of eternity.
Sump has been sanded, painted and re-sealed on after I found a HUGE oil leak out the front near the timing belt.
Bought about five meters worth of braided hose the other day to replace tired old heater hoses.
Also bought a new oil cooler as the stock one was looking a bit worn out haha.
New turbo should be here in the next couple of days.
It's a 57 trim from Driftmotion (most A70 users would be familiar with it and the company ha).
Unfortunately I have to buy a new turbo manifold as well.
I took the old one off the other day to be greeted with a two inch long crack right through the flange -.- so I'm taking in my old one to Horsepowerinabox in Lonsdale and hoping they can whip me up a new one similar to the old one as it still has to go through regency once the engine's in.
That's all for now, as soon as I can get my camera working I'll upload some photos for you all

Was just about to post in here asking for an update, but you beat me to it. . . How was the shipping on the turbo from DM (cost)? And good luck with Regency. . . Im waiting to see how easy it is for you and JZMA70 to get through before I think about giving it a crack. . . Speaking of cracks, shame about the crack in the manifold, hope a new one doesn't cost too much. . .

haha, well the turbo itself was around the $900 dollar mark, plus $500 shipping I think?
But thats for air, so it only takes up to ten days or whatever it is to arrive.
So either way it's about the same to buy/rebuild one here or get a new one from the States.
And as for Regency I only have to drive to Goolwa (twenty minute drive) 'cause there's a vehicle inspection point there, and according to Dad and the rego company they can clear it and give me my new rego details and all that over there with just an inspection, which is great.
I'll keep you posted on how that goes for when you're ready to go through :P.
The manifold is only a pain in the ass cause I'll have to get studs put into it so I can keep the heatshields (I know regency and the po-po don't like aftermarket manifolds), but from what I can gather it will only be around the $600-$700 mark.....I hope *fingers crossed*

*edit* change the $900 to $600, I got the numbers mixed around! haha.

Another update.
Engines out of my car and on the ground, powersteering racks have been changed from turbo car into mine (mine was absolutely destroyed) and my new exhaust and intake gaskets are in.
Only waiting on the turbo manifold, flywheel bolts and some more fitting and the engines done!
Will have photos this week (that's a promise hahaha) of everything and how it's going :)

Alright, time for a photo update.
I've got nearly everything I need now.
Still waiting on the manifold unfortunately, going in to checkup on Tuesday to see how it's going.
Getting a bunch of braided lines and fittings this Tuesday as well for the new oil-cooler I bought, which should fit where I want it to, pretty hassle free *fingers crossed*
My car next to the now wrecked/is being wrecked turbo donor.

Engine getting taken out of my car as is
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n75/Imojen_2006/5.jpg
Another one
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n75/Imojen_2006/6.jpg
And an "older" photo of my turbo engine.
It now has a bunch of new lines, fittings and I've tidied up the wiring a little with new split loom and electrical tape on every wire I could find haha
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n75/Imojen_2006/8.jpg

And last but not least the most important discovery I've found with this engine so far.
I was looking around the head part of the engine, cause it looked awefully clean compared to the rest of the car.
Looking along the headgasket line I spotted a glimmer in the sun, from what I can tell it has a new metal headgasket already installed about 2mm in thickness, along with the head being possibly ported and shaved too.
So as you can gather I'm over the moon with that discovery, hopefully it'll last me quite a while and hold the power I want to achieve out of it.

Will post up a few more when the manifold/oil cooler lines and fittings are here and mounted!

take the valve covers off mate and see weather the head bolts are a 10mm allen key or a 12mm 12point socket.
Then retorque the head to make sure its at putting down at least 72lbs

One step ahead of you for the re-torquing golli, they're already at 72 lbs ;)
But I dunno whether it was the socket or allen key on the head, dad did it a while back.
Does it make a difference which one it is?

10mm allen key head means they are stock bolts.

Another quick photo update.
And golli: It wasn't a 10mm allen key used to tighten the head, as far as me and dad can remember it was a socket(it was a fair while ago ahah)
New turbo that's been sitting around for a while, been to lazy to take any photos:

That a B&M oil cooler? It's massive.
I was going to get that one but saw the Earls for another 50 buks. It's a fair bit smaller, but thicker.
Bet trying to find the right spot for it was fun! lol

Are you going AFPR?? I see you still have the J-Tube in, so wondering weather or not your still running the stock fuel setup with that very, very nice turbo!
