reading through the Classic Adelaide Rally car listings i noticed that there is a Supra on the list - yay!
car #35 is James Giesbrecht with Steve Nyveld (both from South Australia) in a 1993 Supra SZ Aerotop and they're listed in the non-competition Thoroughbred Touring category.
congratulations to James (who i don't know) for taking a Supra to the Classic Adelaide! hope that you have a great time driving thru the various stages over the next four days. i'm certainly awestruck and this makes me more determined to get my car up to spec to go in a tarmac event such as this. :notworthy:
if anyone knows who these guys are, please pass on SA Supra's best wishes for a fast and safe event! :photo:
cheers!

The car
1993 Toyota Supra SZ Aero-top
Engine: 3.0L Inline-6
Power: 225 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 210 ft-lb @ 4800 rpm
Curb Weight: 3215 lb
Weight/Power Ratio: 14.3 lb/hp
Top Speed: 230 - 250 km/h
Transmission: 4-speed automatic with manual mode.

Should be interesting to see how they go! don't think I'll make it out this year for it though due to an exam on Saturday morning... might catch some of the tail end of the event.

Good on them. Thoroughbred Touring is a speed-limited non-competition class, hopefully they do it again next year and do the regularity class. It'll be a few years yet before the car is eligible for the competition class.

That little map thing is pretty cool. He is doing 28kph along 1 tree hill road at the moment. bit of a reccy run before the event no doubt. Im amazed he didnt source a manual for the event. Guess its a matter of using what you have. I would also bet he is making more power than those figures quoted and would suggest that is just a blurb sheet extracted from a UK or US site, since we dont normally quote car weight in pounds. I will be watching his progress for sure. There you go Kim some competition for when your Beast is finally complete.

I was down at the rally today but this Supra was no where to be seen, can only assume the competitor pulled out at some stage (as today was the final day). I have met the owner/driver of this car before, we were both at the same practice day at mallala back in august, he is an american guy iirc and a very nice fellow too!
