Trackday 2009 - Nov 23 High Performance Drive Day

unfortunately we lost the latest trackday thread with the server crash and i won't rewrite it again.
essentially, those who attended the Advanced Driving Course run by John Bowe Driving on August 25 are eligible for the High Performance Driving Course that i have organised for November 23 (Monday). of course, those who have attended previous HP courses over the last few years or have track experience are eligible to participate this year (i know who you are).
if you are new to this forum and haven't done a defensive driving course or some sort of high speed driver training course before, then you probably won't be able to enroll for this trackday. sorry, but this is a safety consideration. if you are interested in taking your car out to this trackday, have some track experience (not drifting) or are confident at driving hard and won't endanger the rest of us by being a complete noob, then please contact me for further discussion. if you fancy yourself as the next F1 driver, then i'm sure that Mclaren will be looking to sign you up for the 2010 season - you'd better go back to waiting for that phone call.
the cost will be $385 for the day and you will need an AS/ADR/Snell approved helmet. fire extinguisher is optional.
this will be a joint event with Skylines Australia (SAU) as it follows on from the very successful Advanced Driving Course that i organised for Aug 25.
No, we can't have a purely SA Supra trackday because it is impossible to organise (if you think that you can do it, please go ahead).
No, we can't have spectators on the day as they are not covered by public liability insurance.

Still need to have the 1,000km service, ceramic coat the exhaust, install the oxygen sensor to lean out the tune, get a wheel alignment, get the A/C service and re-gas (can’t drive without A/C) plus work 60 hours per week.

no helmet = no drive
For those who have been out on one of these days before, the following is good revision. For those who haven't, this will be useful in your preparation. This list has been compiled from the group's experiences over the last couple of years, so ignore the recommendations at your own peril.
Mandatory: (Not Negotiable. DON'T HAVE = CAN'T DRIVE)
* full face / open face helmet (MUST HAVE) - motorcycle helmets are fine, Australian Standard AS1698 helmets are preferred minimum
* long sleeved shirt (cotton/non-synthetic material)
* long pants (no shorts!)
* metal tire valve caps (if you don't have them, then start looking to buy now)
* increase tire pressure by 8-10psi for street tires
* full tank of fuel (98RON recommended)
Rationale: higher tire pressures mean stiffer sidewalls, so less deformation during cornering. We recommend starting high (usually 38psi cold for 17" tires) before leaving Adelaide as you can always let them down to the desired levels when you're at Mallala - there aren't any tire pumps at the track. Long sleeved clothing will protect you a couple of seconds more in case of fire and cotton won't melt like synthetics will. If you have a racesuit or Nomex clothing, you're welcome to wear it - those who laugh at that stuff won't be laughing when they're on fire.
Recommended:
* thin soled shoes (eg. Puma motorsport range - Future Cat / Speed Cat)
* driving gloves
* cap/hat (to save you from having helmet hair when you're out of the car!)
* sunscreen + Aeroguard
* tire pressure gauge
* fire extinguisher (secured)
* tool kit / socket set
* wheel chocks (leave handbrake OFF after lapping)
* octane boost
* extra fuel (enough to get to nearest BP Gawler or BP Bolivar 35km away)
* remove loose objects from vehicle interior
Rationale: You will get better pedal feel and control with driving shoes rather than work boots. Your palms will get sweaty in the heat, so driving gloves help you to grip the steering wheel better. There's no shade on the track and the sun is pretty harsh out there, so protect yourself with some sunscreen. If it's a hot day, there will be hundreds of flies at Mallala and they're bloody annoying, so don't forget the Aeroguard! Hopefully you won't have to use a fire extinguisher, but it will be handy in case someone else is in trouble nearby. The tool kit is useful for tightening things up in case they fall off or hoses pop off (it has happened to a few of us before). And DON'T use your handbrake when parking in the pits after doing hard laps - it may fuse to your rear brakes if they're too hot or you'll leave an imprint of the hot pad on the rotor at the very least. Octane boost is a good safety measure. The fuel pump at Mallala may not be available on our day, so best to bring an extra jerry can of fuel to top up at lunchtime. The turbo charged cars will be thirsty and you want to prevent low fuel starvation when cornering by not having a an empty tank.

Hope the weather isn't too hot and it's not raining for some serious fun!
Good Lucky, drive safe and get there and back in one piece.

please note that the John Bowe Driving team will be using Garages 20/21 for the drivers briefing, theory lectures and the catered lunch - we usually store small bits and pieces in the limited space there during the day, but if you're bringing spare tires, trolley jacks, ramps, etc then putting those in a separate garage would be better for everyone.
Heslo and i will be splitting a garage between us ($110 total for one garage - yes, it's expensive - i know) but the more people who chip in, the cheaper it is for those who need to use it to store their stuff. it will be a separate cost from your course fee. $10 per person will make this plan viable.
those who have used a garage during other trackdays will appreciate the benefit of having the space (and the shade from the elements - sun/wind/rain)
reply here.

Sounds good to me. 8.30 I think? Can't recall how long it takes to get to Mallala from there, and last time I went the roadworks were all still on anyway. 30-40 minutes at a guess?

Jeez, you're keen. I was going to do a final fill up on the way to the meet point. I was going to suggest meeting around 7.30-7.40. If you want to meet earlier then I may just turn up a few minutes prior to roll-out ;)

even with the road work, it takes around 45min from City Dismantlers to Mallala - i went up there a couple of times in the last month so am fairly sure that it will take that amount of time (except if they close the road down to one lane or something).
