Viva Garage Kits

I'm still hunting Do-Luck sideskirts and may go front fenders as well. In all likeliness, I'll probably go to Sinex in Melbourne and I'm already shuddering at the thought. I placed an inquiry last Tuesday about freight costs and it took them until last night to provide them to me.
I was bored yesterday and decided to run a trial (sorry about the pun!) fit of the rear bar and provide some feedback about the quality of the Fiber Creation kits.
Here's a photo:

I'll reserve judgement as to whether I like this or not over the next couple of days so I've taken the original bar of the market in case I change my mind.
Back to the feedback.
Manufacture quality - 8/10. Overall the quality is good. Finish and consistency is good. Thickness is uniform. There are a couple of areas where I will need to reinforce the product as there are a number of fine fractures appearing. Oh, the joy of fibreglass. Not symmetric around the number plate. Rear crash bar fits ok. Still need to check if energy absorbing foam fits from original bar.
Finish quality - 6/10 On first look it appears ok. On a closer look there is a lot of work to get this bar smooth.
Fit quality - 7/10 down to 5/10 Some may thing that I'm being nice but it is a hand-laid kit after all. There will always be work required to get these suckers to fit and this kit is no different.

I'm downgrading the fit from a 7 to a 5. I've now come to terms with the amount of work required and it is a bit. The problems or misfits are:
1. gap between boot and rear bar a little too wide - 5-6mm instead 3mm
2. misfit around rear quarter panels
3. misfit around rear wheel arch
4. number plate 'hole' not square and symmetric
5. misfits around tail lights - varies but will require a fair buildup
6. inner fins are not the same. The right hand side will need to be built up to match the left.
Fibreglass is a wonderful product provided you don't stress it too much. I'm already seeing a number of fracture points around the tail lights so my plan is to strengthen it using carbon tows. I'm not sure if this terminology is common to the car industry but it is to the R/C gliding community. It is a very common and cheap way to strengthen balsa work when building model gliders/planes and I'll use this technique in the areas around the taillights and number plate areas and probably for the narrow section which meets the rear hatch.

The genuine kit is much better, the copied one will always have distortion, uniform....problems, and the copied ones are always too thin, easy to break.
Plus, you give the support to the orginal brand if you buy genuine kit, if everyone keep buy replica, then one day, they will stop design and make the kit for us.

Actually its good to see people using the search function before asking heaps of questions as many of them have been made and answered before. Unlike the National site I dont agree with their standard answer of "" Use the Search key "" as sometimes people arent familiar with the site navigation. It takes 5 secs for the regulars to find old threads , so be a help not a pain in the arse.
