I'm not sure you'd want them. There are no discounts to be had.

So far I have managed 2 or 3 quotes from CMI and I can still get parts out of Curt at 30-50% cheaper than CMI and Curt gets them delivered to my door.

As an example.

1. Rang CMI asking for a price - quoted $225.36
2. Emailed Norm as a member - quoted $218.79 - :claps:
3. Emailed Curt - quoted $US142.46 equiv $AU150 at approx current FX rates

So are you telling me I'm going to pay CMI an extra 46% to do business with them, yea right!

Cheers
TOF

No one said you have to buy from them. They are offering discounts and are generally cheaper than most of the local guys.

I source many parts from the USA, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan and CMI. I basically buy what is good value depending on how quickly I need them and who has them in stock.

I had a spreadsheet of over 100 parts. I obtained pricing from the USA, Hong Kong and CMI. I was amazed at the spread of prices between the three and not anyone was the cheapest.

As Darren said shop around.

I don't disagree with either you or Darren but you are both missing something here. I thought CMI were supposed to be giving club members a discount but on a number of occasions I have caught them out. On what I have found they are not offering anything better than a normal retail price. I would have expected that as a club they would be offering a discount, maybe something close to trade.

So, to get back to answering Hardy's question...."I'm not sure you'd want to. There are no [club] discounts to be had."

P.S. Andy, I'd be interested to know what you organised with them as far as discounts are concerned because as I said I haven't seen anything other than normal retail so far.

Andy,

You haven't answered my question regarding discounts with CMI Toyota, so I'll ask it again in the interest of club members knowing what you have managed to organise.

What are the discounts being offered by CMI Toyota?

Tony

There is no formal agreement in place other than them offering prices cheaper than retail.

There is no fixed discount either as the pricing structure varies depending on the parts.

Not sure why you are having so many problems as others seem to be happy with their service.

With some parts (as you quite rightly pointed out) their pricing is way off the mark, yet for other parts, they can be much cheaper. I guess you just need to have some luck on your side.

The concept didn’t really work as we don’t have the collective buying power as I thought plus probably not well executed either.

With the strong Aussie dollar, why wouldn't we be looking overseas?

1st up. I'm not having any troubles with the service they offer. No one was talking about service. I've had cars incl. the supra serviced by them and have bought parts consistently from them over the last 4 plus years.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the thread is titled 'CMI Toyota Club Discounts'. I was talking about a supposed discount pricing you had organised as this is what the thread deals with.

Thanks for the clarification on the following:

1. There is no formal agreement.
2. There is no fixed discount.

and yes I have to agree with you, you executed it badly.

PULL YOUR HEAD in Tony - everyone here is a volunteer and from what I've seen of you lately your attitude is far from constructive or understanding of people's situations.

SAS/ Andy/ nor anyone hear owes you a living. You get what you give so maybe you should work on your attitude please sir?

You're not making friends lately mate in case you haven't noticed!

Gaven,

I'm sorry you feel this way. It's a sad state of affairs when people can't accept criticism, after all it was Andy who said it wasn't executed well and I'm only agreeing with him.

It looks like I'll just have to walk and go elsewhere, so I'm more than happy for you to ban me if you think it's appropriate.

I do wish SAS the best of luck but frankly attitudes need to change if you expect the club to progress to the next level.

All the best

Tony

Well then, get off your bum, come to an AGM, volunteer for a role, make it happen, and in your eyes "make it better".

I myself have quizzed the CMI club discount scheme directly with the providers and the problem is they haven't worked it out in the spares office yet, and are probably not likely to from what I can gather.

Andy's made efforts in this regard, and the level of support available excellent, but the whole 'systemic' club discount thing seems to have fallen over from their end for whatever reason/s. I guess we can keep trying. I have on many ocassions, however, been given trade price on higher volume items since they know how deep in the club I am.

I know you're shitty at Andy about the used parts debacle but given the amount of time and effort that has been put in over the years by people - you shouldn't be rubbing it in that it was handled badly. He tried to set something up but alas.

SAS is not a private company - it is a social organisation run by volunteers. You simply cannot expect service levels akin to what can be expected in commercial industries. The implication is therefore that you have very little ability to hang shit on office holders since they are all doing it out of the goodness of their hearts.

I, myself, am more than happy for people to complain and make 'constructive' criticism but IF you want to do that, you should also consider volunteering to help if you care that much.

The tone of your post was a legalistic dissection of his reply to this thread followed by a pot-shot at the end.
Given that Andy has tried to setup a benefit for us all, I don't think your response was very nice nor considerate of his well intentioned efforts.

If you want to get involved, please do, but don't hang shit on Andy because at least he tried - did you?

GEE

PS - you've done nothing wrong in order to get a ban, but if someone tries to do something nice and they balls it up you don't jump in and give them mouthfuls of attitude, curiously your response talks about 'attitudes' around here >> go find a mirror mate.

If you are criticising me then I accept that (not sure why but I will). Not sure what I did wrong but hey.

This thread will be removed and no members will receive any discount from being associated with this club.

We will email Norm and ask him to delete the list.

Andy,

I'm taken back by the fact that you think you're being criticised. I've reviewed the thread and at no point have I actually gotten stuck into you about the way this was handled. I sought clarification as to what had been organised with CMI but each response just managed to smoke screen the answer with: everyone else is happy with the service don't know why you're not or, shop around no one is forcing you to buy from them or some of their prices are cheaper than others.

My concern was that Hardy suggested that the club might look at bringing them on board as a sponsor but I figure as a sponsor they need to offer club members something and on my experiences they weren't. I offered my comments.....

I have dealt with CMI over the years and have received discounts as well, as both you and Gav suggest, but this is on an individual basis and not as a club member.

Gaven's revelation about the deal falling down at their end is a new one to me. How long was this known about and why wasn't it added to the thread? It might have clarified the situation a lot early.

I hope your joking about removing the thread and retrieving the list from CMI. If not then you are being childish as it sounds very much like a dummy spit to me aka I'm going to take my bat and ball and go home.

You criticised yourself and all I did was to agree with you.

Tony

Gav,

I'll try and answer your points.

1. I don't have the time so I don't commit. As a committee you and others put yourself in the limelight and as a committee or individually you need to accept the fact that not all people will agree with you.

2. How long have you known about this deal falling down at the CMI end? Where you going to tell anyone or add comment to the thread?

3. I've been on enough committees at local, state and national levels to last me a lifetime. Don't preach to the converted.

4. I was keeping my dealings with Andy private. Obviously Andy or you or both have decided not to. Not happy. What occurred between Andy and me is/was private. Butt out.

5. If you commit to be on a committee then commit.

6. Tried. A couple of times. When the club started tried to organise track days - no interest. Tried to organise discounts with Superpro bushes - no one picked this up either.

Tony

P.S. Happy to discuss this over a beer anytime.
