I'm learning something new all the time :( .

What do you mean by "...some drilling to support lock wiring..."

I guess this just manages to show up my semi-bogan background!

For coilovers to be considered 'legal' (ie, pass regency), they must be 'locked', in that the height adjustment is 'locked' into place - usually through the use of wire...

Hope that makes sense - didn't quite come out the way I had anticipated...

So even though they have the locking collars they are still illegal due to not having the pins?

Yep they need to be fixed with lock wire or some sort of a pin mechanism so the rings cannot move due to vibration when driving. I personally dont think they would move in a month of Sundays but Regency's opinion counts more than mine. Cant have your car scrapping its guts on the road while driving can we.

Bah im not gonna go drilling my coilovers. Ill just lift them as high as they go and tighten the lock nut. That will do.

Regency's response to the coilover issue varies (this has been our experience when taking cars for compliance through Sinergy) - there is no guarantee that they will pass you if your coilovers are set at or above the legal ride height / clearance. locking the collars as described above does help, but you are ALWAYS better off going through Regency with standard height suspension in place.

you can debate it with them over the phone all you like, but it's up to the inspector on the day, so best of luck! just make sure you don't get a defect notice in the first place :)

Pop up some prices Kim as others here are probably interested as well in some Zeal's.

Cheers

ok, i've confirmed the 2008 retail pricing for the Endless ZEAL coilover range with the Australian distributor:

Function Xs will be AUD$2725 rrp
Function X will be AUD$3275 rrp
Super Function will be AUD$3645 rrp
Super Function R (with remote reservoirs) = POA only

all prices above are recommended retail (RRP) so PM me for member pricing.

for reference, the spring rates are:

Endless ZEAL Function XS = 14kg/mm front 10kg/mm rear
Endless ZEAL Function X = 16kg/mm front 12kg/mm rear
Endless ZEAL Super Function = 21kg/mm front 16kg/mm rear
Endless ZEAL Super Function R = you're nuts

HKS HiperMax II = 14kg/mm front 8kg/mm rear (discontinued)
HKS HiperMax Performers = 12kg/mm front 7kg/mm rear
HKS HiperMax Pro Performers = 22kg/mm front 16kg/mm rear
Endless ZEAL Japan

Tein SuperStreet (JDM) = 10kg/mm front 6kg/mm rear
Tein SuperStreet (MVP) = 14kg/mm front 8kg/mm rear (replaces Tein HA)
Tein Flex 14kg/mm front 8kg/mm rear (discontinued)
Tein.co.jp

i am running Function X in my Supra and Yiros is running HiperMax Performers in his. i would recommend Function Xs as most people will find the firmer Function X spring rates (even with softest dampening selected) too harsh for the street. however, if you're used to worn factory suspension already, Function X may be quite acceptable.

can someone post up the Aus spec Tein SS and HiperMax III spring rates here?

Do any of the coilover sets listed above have bump adjustable dampening? I think the Tein SS(and probably similar spec sets from other companies) are only rebound adjustable?
