ALL SPOTS NOW FILLED!

ok boys and girls, it's time for our Annual Track Day at Mallala. I have organised another High Performance Driving Course with the John Bowe Institute of Driving for Monday October 29. This is an opportunity to put your money where your mouth is and get out on the circuit to cut some hot laps. ** please note that this is not a race or drift day ** see FAQ post below

As has been mentioned in other track related posts/threads, this is a Level 2 instructor led course. This means that you have the opportunity to have a qualified instructor (who is often a professional race car driver) assess your driving ability / technique and teach you new skills (or modify your bad habits). Website here: John Bowe Institute of Driving

It is preferable that you have done a Level 1 defensive driving course before, or that you're an experienced driver in the Adelaide Hills. JBID normally requires participants to have done a L1 course such as a Drive to Live / Drive to Survive day prior to doing this High Performance course. However, if you regularly do "spirited driving" through the hills then this course should be fine for you. Everyone has varying levels of track experience, but we're all out there to improve our skills and learn something new about our cars. Traffic light grand prix racers don't count - we're going fast around corners here!

There is less than three (3) months to go, so you'd better get your shit together. Our annual dyno day is three weeks before this (October 6) so there should be no excuses for not having your car ready (unless you blow it up on the dyno... :fool: )

unfortunately pricing has gone up (first time in 3 yrs) "due to continued increase in venue hire rates. new bookings are now $425 (up from $385)"

EXACT PRICING IS NOW CONFIRMED --> $385 per person
- $100 deposit due by September 1st
- $285 balance of payment due by October 1st (before Dyno Day)
- the track day on October 29 is a Monday so better organise your holidays/leave/sick day now!

Summary:
------
* 12 places available for SA Supra members (24 cars total)
* cost = $425 --> $385 for whole day (0830-1630) of instructor led training
* deposit = $100 to SA Supra account or me (ultra_supra)

* theory session, track walk through, practice laps, then training
* includes morning tea + catered lunch + water throughout day
* no drifting
* no spectators
* no passengers other than the instructors
* your own helmet is required, secured fire extinguisher is optional
* a CAMS licence is NOT required.

* this is a supervised circuit day with strict and specific rules.
* it is not a race session, nor is it a drift day.
* overtaking on corners or under brakes is not allowed.
* definitely no contact with another car's bodywork!
* everyone has the opportunity to go at their own pace

Frequently Asked Questions:
---------------------------------

Q: Why is this so expensive? I can go out to Mallala for $70-$90 on an open day and go fully sick there
A: Well go ahead and do that then. This is a driver education day. we're paying for the exclusive hire of the track, ambulance crew, instructors, and catering. The JBID days are good from an instruction and safety point of view, but yes, are costly. Our package includes the cost of instructors, ambulance crew and someone to pull you out from the sandtrap. Food and refreshments are included.

The problem with an open day is that you will be sharing it with lots of other cars, drivers who may not have experience in circuit driving (and therefore clog or obstruct the track), drifters (not a bad thing, but they do obstruct traffic), and those who aren't concerned about losing pieces of bodywork or other cars (therefore dangerous). There will only be 26 cars in total on our day. Up to 10 cars may be circulating out there at any one time but on different parts of the track so you will have the opportunity to stretch your legs out (you may have to be patient though)

Q: Are spectators allowed to come along watch for the day?
A: Unfortunately, no.

Q: Can i drift my car on this day or Can i race other people for pink slips?
A: No!

Q: Can i take other people around the track in my car?
A: Aside from the instructor, no.

Q: "I'm an ace driver already and don't need any instruction from anyone. i just want to tear up the track and smash the lap record. Why should i listen to an instructor telling me how to drive?"
A: If you're thinking that, then this sort of track day isn't for you. You should stay at home and wait for that phone call from the Formula 1 team that so desperately wants to sign you up for their championship run.

Q: Will i hit the 180kph speed cut in my supra?
A: Quite possibly if you are a hero on the back straight. However, you'll have to back that top speed up with damn good brakes or you'll miss the hairpin corner completely. I will be most impressed if you are able to hit 200+kph on the back straight of Mallala in a Supra and not spear off at the first hairpin.

Q: Doesnt Mallala hire out the track to people already? Why can't SA Supra hire out Mallala for a day?
A: That's a great idea, but if you can do it and pull it off, please let me know as i've been trying to organise such a club day for years. Yes, you can hire out Mallala for $3000-$3500 per day and that includes the presence of the ambulance crew. However, there are the issues with public liability insurance to consider if you have spectators around (ie. who is liable if someone slips over in the public toilets and fractures a wrist? or falls off the grandstand and ends up with spinal injuries...). There are also questions regarding the direction of such an event. Do we have enough people willing to be track marshalls and traffic coordinators for the day?

Q: Can i rock up on the day and borrow a helmet?
A: No. You will need to bring your own as it is a mandatory requirement. No helmet, no go.

Q: Will i be insured if i crash my car? or crash into someone elses car?
A: No insurance company will cover u for damage incurred on a race track, even with a CAMS licence. period. You are required to sign a loss and damage waiver by John Bowe to participate on the day.

Q: I have heard that some insurance companies will cover my for a driver education day - does that apply?
You will have to check with your own insurance company to see if they can cover you for this event. Participation is at your own risk otherwise.

Q: Do i need a CAMS licence for the day?
A: No. this is not a CAMS practice or race event
.

But there is to many restrictions.

Ill tell you why :).

Q: Can i take other people around the track in my car?
A: OH siht YEH, cos i wanna bring my dad strap him to the front passenger seat of a car, (fcuk SPEED CUT WHATS THAT i got a HKS speed cut defender :) ) run him flat out down the straight untill he is pinned to the seat, hit the corner with some ridiculous G forces spin him around one more time, and MAKE HIM GROW A FUCKING BRAIN :), thats if he doesnt chuck it out of his mouth by this stage.

Q: Can i drift my car on this day or Can i race other people for pink slips?
A: I CANT HELP IT, my shift kit does it for me once the VVTI and 18psi kick in.

Q: "I'm an ace driver already and don't need any instruction from anyone. i just want to tear up the track and smash the lap record. Why should i listen to an instructor telling me how to drive?"
A: I got column shift, so therefore i dont need someone telling me to put both hands on the steering wheel, or i just want to be a ULEH with the window down and elbow sticking out resting while i use one finger to steer around the track :).

Q: Will i hit the 180kph speed cut in my supra?
A: fcuk no, SEE ABOVE

Q: Can i rock up on the day and borrow a helmet?
A: Why do i need a helmet, last time i checked my user name is not SCISSOR DOOR PIMPIN, and i dont use my targa roof as an excuse not to rev the NA past 2k :).

Q: Do i need a CAMS licence for the day?
A: I tried but Tonkins wont make me a CAM member :).

Enjoy :).

Just with this question, One of my best mates from school, is a marshall at the f1 grand prix and at the clipsal 500.....

( he has mates who does this with him who live hear in adelaide )

im sure if we paid him for the day he'd rather come out and watch some racing compared to working another day at work...

should i ask him for future reference ???????

I think George is just a bit scared that his "New" supra will be getting showed up by all the series 1 boys....

Its ok George, I will stay half throttle the first few laps to let you keep up.

This is gonna be awesome - AGAIN !!

I reckon I might hit 200 this time esp. with the new power increase. I was actually lifting off over the bend in the back straight last time, street tyres arent' the greatest confidence givers esp. since my fronts dont' match my RT 615 rears - shame

Give me some semi's and then I reckon I would definately do it ie. balls out, to the wall and all that.
A cage won't be in, in time but that would really mean I could go hell for leather!

Cya lads,
GEE

^ added Blezzing to the list - glad that you're interested!

the John Bowe track day is locked in for Monday October 29. pricing is now confirmed:
- $385 per person flat rate for our group
- $100 deposit is due by September 1st (two weeks from now)
- $285 balance of payment due to John Bowe Driving (cheque/cc) by October 1st

cost for us is $385/pp for the day (up from $330 last year). this is a flat rate that i have negotiated for all of us. sorry, i couldn't get any further discount for repeat customers. for reference, the price for general public or newbies is $425 this year (up from $346 last year and $385 earlier this year) and a private track day (with CAMS) generally costs ~$300 so this isn't too much more for our own day with catering and access to instructors.

as the track day October 29 is a Monday so better organised your holidays/leave/sick day now!
deposit can be given to me or sent to the club bank account
i will post up the enrolment forms soon.

from all the talk that goes on this site, it sounds like we have enough ace drivers here to fill half the grid for the 2009 F1 GP season (Hamilton and Alonso watch out). i guess that some Supra drivers are too cool to go out on the track to be shown how to really drive. must be too busy waxing their car again...

track day is exactly 10 weeks from today. register or remain a poser

good stuff kimmy, you're an expert in the field of reverse psychology haha!

Did someone say slicks? hmmm, need to find me a new set of lightweight track rims and some slicks. If anyone hears of any sets of 17's with at least 8" fronts and 9" rears then let me know.

this would be good for Hardy and PHNTOM, both seem to think they are the supra's Mark Skaife... here's your chance to prove it.

a lot of talkers on here, not many people willing to step up though. 10 weeks to go, 45 bucks a week to put away, thats only half a tank of petrol a week.
