Track Day - 2007 March/July (upcoming events) High Performance Track Day (Mallala)

Received a letter in the mail today with the dates for the High Performance Driving courses next year which are ran by the John Bowe Institute of Driving. Myself, Gaven, Kim and Andy all attended this course in early in November and were extremely impressed with the day as a whole.
The day basically consists of a short theory session on braking, apexes of corners, speed control and skidding first thing in the morning. Then you will venture onto the track and the instructors will explain each corner on the track to you ie. entry points and exit points, speed, braking etc. After they have fully explained the circuit to you will be split up into groups with an instructor. The groups are generally a ratio of 4 drivers to 1 instructor. Your instructor will then send you out on a couple of familiarisation laps to get used to the track.
Your instructor will then send you on 2 timed laps and record these times for you. After you have been on your timed laps you will take your instructor for a couple of laps while they give you pointers from the passenger seat. The instructor will then drive your car for 3 laps and demonstrate what is the correct technique and explain what you were doing wrong.
There will then be a 45 minute session for you to do as many laps as you want before we go for a break for lunch. After lunch you have basically another 2 hours to do as many laps as you want before you have another 2 timed laps and can compare your afternoon times with those of the morning.
The other boys will back me up on this, you will learn more in one lap with one of these instructors than you will in 100 shitty laps on your own. This is the greatest thing about this course. Highly recommended to EVERYONE, you will learn so much about your car on this day. You will be able to let your baby spread her wings in a safe environment on an enclosed track.
The date is Wednesday 7th March 2007 at Mallala.
I will be attending and I hope that some of you guys will be coming with me.
Last time we had 5 supra's, I say we go for 10 this time.
Price is $385 normally, however I think if we can get 10 of us we will be able to get a nice little discount on that.
Please show expressions of interest here and shoot me any questions you have about the day.
PS: This is not just for TT owners, yiros was in a NA on the last day and still pulled off some very good times, while learning a lot more about his car.

Our instructor recently won his round of Formula 3000 at Phillip Island so he knows his shit.
He sorted out my mistakes instantly - breaking too hard and thus still on the anchors during turn in which was overpowering the tyres too much = understeer.
This day is extremely hard on the car so have ur shit sorted. You'll have the time of ur life.
Was excellent fun. I hope to do this day as well BUT with no.2 son on the way I may well be out of action ('Barry' is due 1st week of Feb.).
Lalla is heavy on brakes so concentrate on making that area strong.
Cheers folks, come along, you'll learn plenty and won't regret it - unless you bin it or blow an engine - but otherwise....
Burst work on the street is cool but this thing is a total fuckin' thrash and safe (ish) !!!

Having been out with the John Bowe instructors several times now, i would recommend it highly to all the forum members here! It may seem quite structured and regimented but is in fact very educational - like Reaper said, good for ironing out bad habits. And no, it's NOT for drift practice.
The March7 trackday will be an open event much like the Nov1 trackday that i went on in that it is open to the general public but tends to be filled up by Porsche club and FPV enthusiasts.
The trackday that Matt mentioned above occured the following day (Nov2) and was one that i had specifically organised, hence all but four of the cars in that list above were my friends or from SA Supra.
Unfortunately due to the timing of this upcoming event i won't make Mar7, but I am planning to run more events with the John Bowe group over the span of the year in addition to less structured days.
Hope this thread gets a lot of response!

I would love to have some one pro like these guys tell me what good and whats bad about about my driving technique, being a young male, of course i think that im the best :P but obviously getting some advice from these guys sure would help. That, and ya get to hoon around Lala for an entire day ;)
On a some what seperate note, relating to Lala, does any one know how much it is forlike a practice day or something one weekend to enter your car for a few laps?

I think there is about 13 weeks before this day comes around, see if you can put away $30 a week maybe? haha.
on a side note though if the timing is a bit close there is another day the same as this on the 11th July 2007 if we have no interest in the first date stated we can go to this date as I'd rather head out to the track with you boys not by myself :)

that sounds superb to me kim.
i am about to send you a PM in regards to something else I have been thinking about as of late.
looks like the march 7th date is a bit too close for most so early July looks like a hit. I know a lot of organisation goes into this so anything I can do to help just let me know kimbo

hey mate,
i said before that all cars are welcome which they are but these days are purely for grip racing, any drifting is frowned upon and you will be asked to leave the track.
having said that though, a little it of sideways action from a high powered car just can't be helped sometimes I guess

Should be a good chance to learn about your personal and car's capabilities

you do not need secondary bonnet catch, fire extinguisher or battery stickers.
you are required to wear a helmet, have metal valve caps and wear a helmet whilst driving.
good point though about July and the weather, didnt really take that into account.... my car doesnt like the rain.

So my bolt in cage is no issues then yay. hopefully i will find a way to get it cams approved anyway but still.
The wet days at lala will see many spins, and grip is a thing of the past.
Make it around november again and get deposits by july. its too hard to get good numbers quickly for such an event.
