2006 First Ever SA Supra Dyno Day - 28th Oct Lay down the neddies folks, it's time to hit the rollerz..

OK, as promised I would like to organise a Dyno Day for the club now that AutoSalon is out of the way.
I have been on heaps of rollers in my time, if you haven't had it done it is pretty cool.
Obviously a great, controlled environment for dialing in engine performance.
Even if your car is stock it is sometimes handy to get a baseline/healthcheck on it eg. stock TT should pump say 180rwkw+ on a manual yeah? If car only squirts 140 then you know you gotta probby.
Now, re: venue - I reckon to suit northerners and southerners we should have a central location. I have dialed my car in at MRE which is at Thebarton. They use a MainLine Dynolog dyno which seem to run about 10% lower than Dyno Dynamics in shootout mode for some reason (eg. I ran 320 at HiTechs DD, and 290 on MRE & AutoSalon's DynoLog).
I asked Jason (workshop manager) at MRE last time I was in what the deal would be for a club meet and he said it was $45 for 3 power runs inc. barbeque lunch. They also take a digital pic and slap this onto your dyno readout, and they also laminate your dyno sheet for durability. That is a pretty good deal I can tell ya. I have paid $75 for a simple diagnostic power run elsewhere.
Day of week would be Saturday morning.
Apparently Brenton @ Fours'n'More isn't able to do Sat morning dyno sessions as he has family commitments otherwise I would expect we would support them as a club for sure.
OK, please register your interest here by continuing to copy and paste the last list.

I'll be in for sure...obviously depending on timing.
Mine's purely stock but would be great to have a baseline to see where to head in the future.
Good work chief...keep us posted!

As long as we don't go overboard we are apparently allowed to chug brews on the day (assuming we go to MRE), will go well with the barbie. Start trash talking each other now I say - TT vs. TT, NA against NA, single's deathmatch (errr... is that going to far? oh, it's only a 'power-off' isn't it).
Any suggestions other than MRE people want?
Also, I thought it might be nice to hand out some awards on the day eg. highest powered NA, TT, single (we have about 5 that I know of or in the soon pipeline), lowest power boobie prize etc.
Can candidates also maybe post up Saturdays they know they CAN'T make. I reckon this club event will be in around a month's time ie. after upcoming cruises, golf days etc. That way the weather won't be hot OR cold - just right.
Now, WARNING - the MainLine DynoLogs (eg. the ones used at MRE & AutoSalon) regard themselves as the most accurate dyno's around, allegedly other dynos (eg. DD) read higher falsely from what I hear around the traps - and this means Dyno Dynamics IN shootout mode read higher. Presumably this is why AutoSalon use DynoLogs for consistency.
You won't be getting a big phat inflated figure from this event as DL's are designed for repeatable, durable, accuracy ie. they have consistent ability to measure parameters - important for tuning. See their site for more info >> http://www.mainlinea...ddyno/index.htm
[Soooo.... if you want a dodgy dyno you should go somewhere dodgy/crusty, slip the dude an extra 20, run outside shootout mode on a DD and stick the intake temp sensor up your butt for extra power via software correction, fiddling the ramp rates also helps apparently. ]
OK, everyone cool with that - I just want you to be in the know. For example, when I dialed in the GT40R on MRE I was as happy as a clam but still went to John @ Hi Tech the next day to get a real, shootout, CORRECT temp readout on DD so I could compare (290 vs 320 = ~+10%).
As they say, dynos are designed to show relative improvements in engine tuning ie. same dyno platform, same dyno settings. Comparing between dyno's is hard due to the issues mentioned above.
Thanks clubbers, please keep the comments coming. Club feedback on these issues would be informative to us all ie. please share your experiences/opinions so we can figure out where we want to go eg.
1. DD shootout mode, proper temp correction, proper ramp rate
2. DD, non-shootout, temp sensor up exhaust, dodgy ramp rate, brag to mates down pub after
3. DL, proper temp correction, proper ramp rate
Thank you,
Gaven

Cool, accurate makes sense to me and you'll get that @ MRE.
I guess what sux is that half the planet uses DD at the moment - ie. it is nice to be able to compare shootout dynos to SOME degree because half the ones you find on the net are DD.
Don't get me started on the US DynoJets though - different calculations again!
And then there are hub driven units, ooh ooh - and Mustangs!

Have a run before those mods and then have a run after those mods (on the same dyno)
That way you will see if you spent your money wisely.

then when I get injectors and comp and up boosted, run it at max, hoping for like 200kw, then tone it down to 1 bar and have 180kw for day to day driving i rection.
Just be good to see a whole bunch of soups getting dyno'd

I went to a dyno day recently through a different car club at Graham West Workshop which is on South Road. Was very professionally organised, no dramas, good friendly service and cost $40 a head. This workshop is known for ACCURATE readings also.
Would definitely recommend them.
My $0.02 ;)
